Picture this, you decide to buy a Bunk Bed for your kids. You go to town and do it secretly. Buy the bed and come home. Once home you spend the whole afternoon setting the bed up before they come home from school. Your kids come home and rush upstairs in anticipation. Push through their door with force and see your afternoons hard work. Your eldest demands the top bunk but is scared of falling off during the night as he tends to toss in his sleep.
The answer to your problems lay in the form of Bunk Bed Rails. They come in all styles, sizes and materials. The are really easy to set up with minimum stress involved.
Some people choose to make their own bunk beds from scratch, but many choose to buy a bunk bed and put it together with the rails installed.
Fixed Bunk Bed Rails with ladder - This can be made out of materials such as wood or metal. It is fixed in place so offers your child the security it needs and knows it isn't going to fall off during the night. A ladder is fixed in place on the rail in order for them to climb up safely. It is advised that children under the age of 6 shouldn't sleep on the top bunk as it is deemed unsafe.
Another type of Bunk Bed Rail is a collapsable rail. It is fixed to the top side of the bed round the back and sides. However the front can collapse down and a ladder is fixed to the bed. This makes it easier for your child to get onto the bed in the first place then pull the rails up when going to sleep. This offers the security it needs and does not need to worry about falling off during their nights sleep.
However, If your child isn't worried about falling out of their bed at night. Bunk Bed Rails are not essential. I would still advise that any child under the age of 6 should not sleep on the top bunk especially if no rail is fitted.
When shopping for a Bunk bed there are a few simple tips to follow. - Make sure to look for no round edges, this can be deemed unsafe when around young children if they fall into one of the edges. - Look for a sturdy structure. See if you can see the bed already assembled in the shop. This gives you a good indication of how safe the structure is and how big it will be in your childs room. - Buy the bed and mattress together so you are certain that the mattress fits perfectly to the bed. If the mattress was too small it could be dangerous for the child on the top bunk. - Depending on your childs age, think of how scary it can be to transition from a cot to a full bed, especially if their first transition is a bunk bed.
